This large work was painted freehand, using ink dropper and water spray. I stood between Tresco, Bryher and the now uninhabited island of Samson. On the very lowest tides you can easily walk between them. Tresco is behind me and I'm looking south towards the other two with the Norrad rocks beyond. A few generations ago this area was fields. Look closely and you can see the old regular stone "hedges", still visible sometimes through the clear water, but fully exposed again on these tides. I've incorporated material from the sea bed into the painting, (sand, grit and seaweed). I paint entirely from life and this venture had to be carefully timed. When the tide turns, the sea comes in quickly!
