The original of this painting was created in watercolour with some pastel and was the same size as the large print we offer (approximately twenty eight inches wide by nine and three quarter inches tall). I had painted a lot of agapanthus at this stage (2013) so I made a conscious decision to only do one a year and try to paint something different. In 2013 I went to Tresco for that year's effort. These agapanthus were growing in the dunes not far from Carn Near. I had to battle to get in there and it took a little while to find exactly the right spot for painting. I am looking back east, towards Bar Point on St Marys and the Eastern Isles. I like to paint either early or late in the day for the best light so, although I started sketching in the morning, this actually became a late afternoon painting. As I recall, it cost me quite a bit in boat fares to and from Tresco...
