The original of this painting was created in watercolour with some pastel and was the same size as the large print we offer (approximately twenty seven and a quarter inches high by nine and a half inches wide). It was painted from the end of Newfort Island on bright spring mornings in 2010. Newfort Island is one of my favourite places to paint. It is just outside our back door, down the slipway and across the sandbar at low tide. It is very peaceful and yet, from the end of the island, you are practically in the centre of the harbour with the boats around you. Daffodils and wild flowers fill the air with perfume. The island of Samson can be seen in the distance. A glance across to the right, where a rocky bar connects Taylors Island to the beach, enables you to keep an eye on the tide. But I have still managed to get cut off occasionally and had to paddle back home!
