I painted here at the end of May 2011. This particular large clump of arums is on the open east coastline of St Marys. As part of the Mayday celebrations on the islands, the local children do maypole dancing and the boys each have a staff with the top decorated with flowers. The centre of the staff is always an arum lily, so a lot of the arums disappear around this time. At the end of the Mayday celebrations, the staffs often meet their end with 'swordfights' on the way home!
