I painted these in the autumn of 2008 which was an exceptionally good year for these magnificent flowers. They are a welcome splash of bright colour after the blue of the Agapanthus and pink shades of the Belladonnas. This particular patch was planted by Donald May next to the foot of the steps on the beach path to Harry's Walls. I sat behind them, looking across Thomas Porth, Newfort and Taylor Islands towards Tresco
