The original of this painting was created in watercolour and was the same size as the large print we offer (approximately twenty seven and a half inches high by nine and three quarter inches wide). I painted this in July 2015 and this was a new planting beside the road, created by my friend, Trish, an accomplished plantswoman who lives with her husband, Roger, in a little cottage just opposite, behind Newman House. You can see the side of the house in the painting. Beyond that is the Newman Battery and west to the left hill of Samson. I painted here before, in 2003, (see "Garrison Garden") but that planting was changed when a driveway was built through it. I think Trish has done a great job here and I particularly liked the glowing deep red blooms of the Crocosmia 'Lucifer'.
