I painted this landscape in town in watercolour with some pastel and the original painting was 26 ½ inches tall x 9 ¾ inches wide.
This unusual and striking work was painted on sunny afternoons in August 2013. I sat by the bike stands outside the Town Hall in Hugh Town to get this view. I used to paint a lot of buildings, chiefly churches, in my youth, so this is a little more like some of my early work. Normally I don’t put many people in my paintings, but I could not paint this view without a few people and decided to place this young girl and her dog in the foreground. Both were done from photos as you cant really get people to stand still here for long. (Another departure from my usual work.)
