I painted this landscape near Bar Point on afternoons in March 2011. It is in the north of St Marys, looking towards St Martins (a glimpse of which can be seen through the trees). Early daffodils and narcissi are a major export from the islands in the winter and there are at least four different varieties of yellow and white flowers growing here. But there is some consolidation in the industry and this old field was clearly not being harvested. The north of St Marys is particularly beautiful and quiet, especially at this time of year. I had to scramble through a fair bit of undergrowth to reach this vantage point and I hardly saw a soul while I was there.
