This is the third of the very large paintings in the "Islands of Sun and Ice" Exhibition and was painted in late June and early July 2011. People sometimes ask "Haven't you run out of things to paint?" but the reality is that Scilly changes all the time with weather, light and the seasons. Here on Porthloo beach, the sand might be covering the rocks almost completely one week and then disappears the following week. This was a particularly calm spell. Look for the oyster catchers at the waters edge and, on the original and the grand prints, you can see a well hidden gull on one of the rocks.
