Painted on bright autumn afternoons in 2010, Newford Island is one of two islands that lie off our beach at Porthloo. It is one of my favourite places to paint and I have been known to get stuck on the island at high tide. But, on this occasion, I chose to paint the island itself near the old quay at low tide. I like the shape of the island and this square format enables me to get this interesting view. On the original painting, I incorporated seaweed and sand with the paint in the foreground.
