In past times, this area of Town Beach near the Atlantic slip was used for many purposes including ship building. Consequently, if you look hard, you can find all sorts of interesting items on the sand. When I paint on the beach, I often include material to add texture etc. I have incorporated a lot in the foreground of this picture, including an old clay pipe stem. You can also see the old Swordfish II at its mooring.
