Painted with ink and a little watercolour 2018. Some people find graveyards a little unsettling, but I love them and this one at Old Town has a special peace and beauty. I've painted in here many times. There is the obvious entropy associated with this subject, but that is not the reason I included it in this exhibition. I was attracted by the beautiful golden sunlight that shone gold on the stone and the Lichens that grow on them. They can live a long time. I find them fascinating. They like the clean air of Scilly and I see them on the rocks by the sea, trees and places like this churchyard. Lichen usually grows very slowly and can be used to determine the age of the object it grows on.
