The original of this seascape painting was created in watercolour with some pastel and was the same size as the large print we offer (about twenty seven inches wide by nine inches tall). This seascape was painted in spring 2006, early in the morning on what was to become a hot day. The beach was deserted apart from the ubiquitous blackbird trying to persuade me to give him some of my breakfast. The purple red Gladioli (byzantinus) growing by the seat are called locally "Whistling Jacks". They were a flower crop on Scilly until they fell out of favour but you can still see them growing in old fields, banks and hedgerows.
