The landscape was painted in watercolour with a little pastel and the original painting was 27 inches tall x 9 7/8 inches wide.
This was painted in Spring 2005. I have long admired the old magnolia that grows there since Holy Vale must be the most sheltered part of the islands and as such the blossom stays longer. The thrush like so many of Scilly’s birds was very tame. He posed within an arms reach for a good 10 minutes before I decided to sketch him in. After that it seemed to take a lot of raisins to get him to come back for the colour. I get the feeling I was conned.
