This evening seascape was painted in watercolour with a little pastel and beach material. The original painting was 27 1/2 inches tall x 10 inches wide.
I painted this calm sunset in the late spring of 2013 at the far end of Porthloo beach overlooking the rocky bar that joins Taylor's island to St Marys. On a whim, I decided to enter it in a competition run by "Artist and Illustrator" magazine. I'd not heard from them by the end of August so I assumed that it had not been selected. (I nearly sold it a number of times) Then in September I received an email to say that it had been selected for the final short list. I was extremely relieved that I still had the original because it had to go to London to be exhibited at the Mall Galleries!
