I am a Norwich based artist, hugely inspired by nature and natural forms. Particularly, coastal scenes and their surrounding countryside, which Norfolk is a endless source for. The light at the coast is always amazing and I love to see things like the textures left by the tides on the sand. I find fields full of wildflowers and overgrown hedgerows very inspiring, and also have a never ending fascination with trees.
I have always been very interested in the therapeutic benefits of both art and nature. There is comfort in connecting with wild places and this is something I like to explore through my work and art process.
With painting, I like to capture an essence of something I have seen and enjoy using expressive gestures and bold colours. I tend to work primarily with oil paints. There is something about their versatility and texture I absolutely love to work with, but I am also trying now to work more with water based paints.
I usually have a sketch book or camera on me - probably making me a frustrating companion to walk with as I like to stop lots and take things in! I am also really interested in printmaking, which I like to combine with water based paint, collage and my photography. I have always loved the aesthetic relief printing and hope to explore that more in upcoming projects.
To me, making art is a bit of an obsession. With each piece I just want to create more. One picture feeds from another and it’s a seemingly endless, yet hugely satisfying, process to me. When I am making things and painting, I just get lost in another world, I suppose it’s a true passion. I just love it
